Sunday August 22ND
INSTRUCTOR DAVID E.
ELKINS SOC
Sunday, August 22, 2010
9:00am - 6:00pm
Downtown Mystic, CT
Most people watch a movie and don’t give much
thought to what the camera department does
during shooting. Unlike home video cameras,
there is no such thing as an automatic setting
on a film or high end digital camera. This
workshop will cover the basic job
responsibilities of the members of the camera
department with demonstrations of how they do
their jobs and the opportunity to practice these
jobs with a professional camera system.
Participants will have the opportunity to rotate
through all of the different positions in the
camera department.
David E. Elkins,
SOC has over 25 years of professional experience
as a Camera Operator and First Assistant
Cameraman, with more than 125 production credits
on feature films, television series,
commercials, music videos, and educational
films. His credits include the television
series’ “The Wonder Years” , “Star Trek, The
Next Generation”, “Gabriel’s Fire”, “Dream On”
and “Tales from the Darkside”, music videos for
Coolio, Cypress Hill, The Beastie Boys and Red
Hot Chili Peppers, commercials for Budweiser,
Life Savers, Minute Maid Orange Juice and many
more.
In addition to
his production experience, he has over 20 years
experience teaching cinematography classes and
workshops throughout the United States including
nine years at Columbia College-Hollywood where
he also served as president of the school from
1994-1995. Most recently he taught the camera
course for the Connecticut Film Industry
Training Program at Middlesex Community College
in Middletown, CT during the summers of 2008 and
2009.
He is the author
of “The Camera Assistant’s Manual” currently in
its fifth edition, published by Focal Press. He
